Friday, April 24. Columbia Design League: Runaway Runway: A Recycled Fashion Show. This second annual fabulous and funky fashion show and fundraiser will feature designs of recycled or reused materials. Designers from high school students to grandparents "strut their junk" at 701 Whaley Street. In one evening, Runaway Runway will once again debunk any notion that high fashion and environmentally sound design can't go hand-in-hand. Refreshments and cash bar will be available. Friday, April 24. Finally Friday Concerts. Break out your dancing shoes and come unwind in the fresh spring air with Johnny Glenn and his band, The Chasers (formerly Table for Two.) The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County's FREE concert is taking place this Friday! Concerts feature local and regional talent with food and drinks available for purchase. Friday, April 24 & Saturday, April 25. A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen. Kimberly Willis Holt will be the featured guest for the 23rd annual A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen-a celebration of stories! Holt's first novel, My Louisiana Sky, was an ALA Notable Book and an ALA Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults. It also received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award. Her second novel, When Zachary Beaver Came to Town, won the 1999 National Book Award. She is also the author of Keeper of the Night. The two-day festival features a lecture by Holt and storytelling for families, featuring regional and local storytellers. Both events, which are free and open to the public, will be held at the Main Branch of the Richland County Public Library.
Friday, April 24 & Sunday, April 26. Inherit the Wind production by the Arts at Shandon. Inherit the Wind is a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial, which resulted in teacher B.T. Cates' arrest for teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to a high school science class. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. Saturday, April 25. 23rd Annual RiverFest Run/Walk for Epilepsy. The 5K Riverfest Epilepsy Run/Walk will be held at the Riverfront Park (Huger and Laurel Streets) at 8:00 am. It is going to be an exciting day with fun, friends and live music! Through the Riverfest Run/Walk, the Epilepsy Foundation hopes to raise enough money to send children to their valuable summer camp, while promoting awareness about epilepsy. Saturday, April 25. Congaree Art Festival. Offered in conjunction with Artista Vista, this show and sale of work features contemporary art by more than 20 of South Carolina's best studio artists. View demonstrations and purchase paintings, pottery, mosaic compositions and more. Saturday, April 25. Camp Kemo Fundraiser featuring Mighty McFly. A renowned band, food, drinks and lots of 80's music...all to benefit Camp Kemo! How else would you want to spend your Saturday night? The goal this year is to have at least 1,000 people attend this awesome fundraiser with ALL proceeds going to Camp Kemo! Tickets are $10 which includes food and a cash bar will be available. Saturday, April 25. Sparkleberry Country Fair. The 14th annual Sparkleberry Country Fair is lots of fun for the entire family. Bring the kids along for free rides and games. There will also be a parade, antique tractors, military displays, arts, crafts and plenty of food. The Fair will take place from 9 am-5 pm at the Clemson Extension. $2 per car. Thursday, April 30. Five After Five. Five Points is rockin' again this Thursday. Ramona Drive, formerly the Kenny Floyd Band, can be summed up as a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll, plus a bit of everything else. Not new to the South's music scene, the Kenny Floyd Band has shared the stage with such national acts as Vertical Horizon, Hoobastank, Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down and even country giant Toby Keith.
