Now through June 7. Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales. It is with great excitement that the Columbia Museum of Art announces a 2009 exhibition, Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales - on view for the first time in the United States! National Museum Wales, known for having one of the finest Impressionist art collections in Europe, is sending to the U.S. highlights from its remarkable Davies Collection, an extraordinary group of 19th- and early 20th-century paintings that is renowned for its beauty and quality. The collection is exceptionally strong in Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works and includes masterpieces by, among others, Cézanne, Corot, van Gogh, Monet, Daumier, Manet, Millet, Pissarro, Renoir, Turner and Whistler. Turner to Cézanne features 53 stunning works of art, seen together in the United States for the first time and will travel to only five venues...with the Columbia Museum of Art being the opening venue! The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation proudly presents the 5th annual Jazz Under the Stars series offering a centennial salute celebrating the birth of the "King of Swing," Benny Goodman. Featured master jazz musicians include Skipp Pearson, South Carolina's "Ambassador of Jazz Music" and the the world-renowned clarinetist, Pete Neighbour. South Carolina Statehouse North Lawn, 6-9 pm. Saturday, May 30. Rhythm on the River. The CMC Steel Rhythm on the River Concert Series resumes this Saturday, May 30th with Brian Conner and his Amazing Friends! Brian Conner is the lead singer/songwriter for the popular band Villanova. Brian Conner began writing songs at age 11 and has now perfected a unique style of funk and hip-hop rock. Conners' unparalleled guitar skill is a passionate combination of technical jazz-fusion and Jimi Hendrix inspired licks. Saturday, May 30. Mud Mania 2009. Mud Mania is a mud clinging, slip sliding, wet and wild obstacle course! Kids are challenged to climb, crawl, jump and slide their way through seven wet and very mucky obstacles! This FREE event includes Mud Mania Obstacle Course (ages 7-13); Mini Mud Obstacle Course (ages 6 & under and children with disabilities ages 13 & under); and the sand castle area. T-shirts & concessions will also be available for sale. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. The event is from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Participants must be present to register. Saturday, May 30. 2nd Annual Thom Aid 2009. We will be selling BBQ plates, t-shirts, koozies and lots of other fun things! Not Neccesarily the Band will be playing at 4pm. Following a 10-year tradition of promoting the arts and communities in Eau Claire and North Columbia, the Eau Claire Community Council's Renaissance Project presents its first Citywide Arts & Community Festival featuring visual and performing artists from throughout the Southeast. Over 100 artists and crafts vendors including the area's first Indie Arts Festival, CraftyFeast, will feature juried, recycled and repurposed art works under the big tent. Thursday, June 4. Five After Five. This 13 week concert series continues this Thursday with Tootie and the Jones with Isabelle's Gift. Seen often at local events, festivals and of course, the Five After Five Concert series, Tootie and the Jones always bring an incredible crowd of loyal fans and friends. Tootie's down home, good feelin' brand of Rock n' Roll will have everyone dancing in the streets. If there is one concert you shouldn't miss this season, it's Tootie and the Jones.
