Friday, June 19. U Pick Blueberries. Double A Farms is opening it's crop to the public for the first time this year so it's time to break out your favorite blueberry recipe. US scientists have shown that the antioxidants contained in blueberries help to slow the ageing process and reduce the risk of cancer. Double A Farms is located at 5412 Bluff Rd. Friday, June 19-Sunday, June 21. SC Irish Arts Weekend. The festival begins Friday evening with a performance of traditional Irish dance by the Rince na h'Eireann Dancers followed by a concert by the Redbird School of Irish Music instructors. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with workshops by the visiting artists, including sessions on the tin whistle and bodhran. Also on Saturday will be a series of mini concerts held throughout the day featuring hammered dulcimer, Irish harp, concertina, Irish pipes, tenor banjo and Irish flute. Friday, June 19-Thursday, June 25. Team UP! Sports Exhibit. How fast is your fastball? How should the face of your tennis racquet be angled to achieve the shot you want? The answers to these questions and many more are waiting for you at "Team Up! Explore Science & Sports." This exciting hands-on exhibition will give you an in-depth look at the many scientific principles of athletics. Children, families and groups alike are invited to check out the fun and fascination that is involved in becoming a winning athlete. The exhibit runs through January 3, 2010. Saturday, June 20. Rhythm on the River! The CMC Steel Rhythm on the River Concert Series resumes this Saturday, June 20th, with the Black Bottom Biscuits. Opening the show is the Sugarloaf Mountain Boys and their performances this week are sponsored by Country Clear Water. This is week #9 of the 10 week music series at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater. Concert is from 6:00-9:00pm and admission is FREE thanks to our presenting sponsors: Agape Senior, Allstate Insurance, C-Anne Able Agency, AT&T, Food Lion, Genesis Studios, Hardee's, Lexington Medical Center, & South Carolina Bank and Trust. Saturday, June 20-Sunday, June 21. SC Reptile & Exotic Animal Show. The South Carolina Reptile & Exotic Animal Show presented by Repticon features reptile and amphibian breeders and wholesalers, reptile pet products and supplies, educational seminars and exhibits, and fun-filled activities for the entire family! Raffles will be held every hour for multiple prizes throughout the weekend as well. There will be more than just the usual reptiles and amphibians in Columbia this time so come experience one of the hottest venomous and non-venomous shows in the Southeast! Sunday, June 21. Father's Day. Riverbanks has teamed up with Operation Military Kids to offer free admission to children of deployed military personnel on Sunday, June 21. Kids who have military dads (and moms) deployed overseas must bring a copy of deployment orders to receive free admission. Riverbanks will also offer free admission to all fathers. | EdVenture is offering free admission to every dad with the paid admission of one child on Father's Day. | Queenstown Bistro is offering a Father's Day Buffet for $6.95 plus all entrees are 30% off all day. | Hemingway's in Irmo will feature a Bloody Mary Bar, 30 cent wings as well as $5 burgers on Sunday.

Tuesday, June 23. Celebrate Black Music Month at the RCPL. Come check out Drink Small, the South Carolina native known worldwide as "The Blues Doctor." Small plays virtuoso blues guitar, two-fisted piano and sings. He has performed at some of the nation's top music festivals as well! The recipient of the South Carolina Folk Heritage Award and a member of the South Carolina Hall of Fame, the 76-year-old's latest work is a tribute to President Barack Obama: "The United States Will Never Be the Same." Thursday, June 25. Thursday Night Dinner Rides. Kick stands up at 6:30 and kick stands down at 7:30! Ya gotta eat so come ride and eat with us! Thursday, June 25. Rock Out Hunger. Earth Fare has teamed up with Harvest Hope Food Bank to host a musical event to help raise money for their organization and to help Rock out Hunger in Columbia! On Thursday, June 25th, Earth Fare will be donating 5% of total store sales to Harvest Hope! In addition, Earth Fare will be grilling fresh, all natural burgers for just $1.00, there will be live music and fun for the kids as well! Make neat musical instruments out of recycled materials, get your face painted and take a picture with Cool Can Sam (Harvest Hope's Mascot). Nice post!  I need to put one together for Lake Norman.  There's much to do here also.  I love the pick blueberry event.  My youngest daughter would enjoy the reptile show. 

That is awesome idea for Riverbanks to help the military families out.
