South Carolina Schools

Students at Palmetto Middle School in Anderson County will soon be able to go hunting, fishing or camping through a program designed to get kids interested in nature through a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This is the first school in the state to offer the program that has both in class and after school activities.
Not all students like or want to play team or individula sports. Not all of them have the skill set to accomplish it. But everyone can fish and hike. And in a state that 36% of our children are obese or overweight this may be the recreation that they need. And one that they may love!
This is way out of the norm of what a traditional after-school program would look like. It will enhance what the school is already doing in environmental education. And will teach these children to appreciate nature and outdoors.
Parents and students are all invited to learn about the program during the open house. After-school choices will include boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, land navigation, animal tracking, archery, archeology, canoeing, kayaking, nature photography and nature writing. What a great offering to these children.
Just to show you South Carolina schools are second to none in the nation for innovation and exploring for the better education of our generations to come!
Great move SC!
