Almost a million twinkling lights and countless animated images make Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks zoo in Columbia South Carolina a must-see for everyone of all ages. New and dazzling creations every year, like elephants splashing cascades of light and monkeys swinging from trees, make this radiant spectacle one you'll want to experience again and again. The kids will love the castle with the snow machine. Visit with Santa Clause, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy the kid-sized "gingerbread" houses throughout the zoo.
Make plans now and you wont be disappointed. We make this a traditional trip with our family every year. We all meet there and spend the last few hours of daylight looking at the animals. Then when the lights come on...WOW!

Hi Laura,
The zoo and Chrstimas lights, now that is a great combination. If it were nearby, I'd sure take my little one. That would be a big hit!
Hi Laura,
The Giraffes in lights. How pretty! I need to drive by my area Zoo to see what's happening. We are getting a BIG snowstorm tonight - oh I just looked out the window it's here NOW - (before noon)! It will be pretty taking pictures with all white backgrounds again.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
April
Thanks for this info. Our 4yr old Granddaughter lives with us and this is right up her alley. We will have to make the trip. Is there a better day to go when it is not so busy or is it packed all the time? Thanks again.
Our zoo also does this every year and the kids just love it! I personally like the zoo train, because you get to see the lights the rest of the patrons don't get to see.
Bill...Its best during the first part of the week in the middle of December.
Thank you so much. Am going to try to make it up there.
Laura, love your photo! Looks like a fun way to spend an evening!
